With New Eyes: Poems by Annette Webb
“A superb ear for language”
Anne Vines – Author of “The Ship Wife” and “Flight”
“With curiosity, clarity, and kindness, Annette’s poems explore the everyday and what makes it possible to appreciate others. A reflective autoethnographic writing style engages us and evokes our own stories.”
Jill Fenton Taylor PhD. – Communication Scholar
“The poet has life experience in two hemispheres and is able to spark vivid pictures and feelings in minimal but perfectly chosen words.”
Alix Bradfield – Author of Energy for Life
“Annette Webb’s poems unfold like origami in their simplicity and emotion. From a country childhood to the sophistication of her life in New York City, her life of letters and friends, her family and travelling lives to finally her home and community in Melbourne, are all seen through her most intelligent eyes.”
Alexandra Grimwade – BA LLB MTeach
“Lucky to have such a wonderful, thought-provoking influence in my life.
Has no doubt shaped me to look out at the world with curious wonder
and be grateful for what I have.”
Phil Neckers – Son – BSc, MSc (Geology) and MBA (Valedictorian)
Clemenger Award, Melbourne Business School
About the Author:
Growing up with severe visual impairment on a Riverina sheep property, Annette lived in a blurry world as no one realised she couldn’t see clearly.
Educated first by correspondence and later at boarding school, that early reliance on instinct and detail sparked a lifelong fascination with observation – carrying her from a gap year in Europe to nearly three decades in the United States. In New York City she worked at the United Nations, navigated advertising and publishing, and stepped on to the stage in Off-Off-Off Broadway theatre. On returning to Australia, she continued to bridge global perspectives, serving on the board of directors for the Australian Institute of International Affairs and judging the UN Media Peace Awards.
