In the early 1950’s a hillside of soft soil, sodden with a winter’s abundant rain, slid gradually towards a shallow cutting which carried a narrow gauge railway. The hillside squelched and oozed over the defenceless strips of metal ribbon clamped too stout fingers of red gum.
